PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
(08/18/2014)

Dear Friends:

Hope you are having a great summer.

After the annual meeting and a short break, the IAPA leaders have been quietly working on a few different projects.

Here are the highlights:

IAPA Chapters - Growth & Integration:  We are delighted to inform you about the birth of a new chapter – the San Antonio, TX chapter. Dr. Malathi Koli is the president of the chapter and Dr. Vivek Singh is the President-elect. Drs. Matcheri Keshavan and Rohit Chandra are taking the lead in forming the Boston chapter. In addition, it is possible that we may have a couple of other new chapters in the near future. I will refrain from mentioning names until plans are clearer. However, it is heartening to see so many of you willing to take the lead and generously contribute your time and effort. Our councilors, Drs. Bhagirathy Sahasranaman and Bhargavi Devineni, continue to have monthly meetings with chapter presidents to discuss needs, opportunities, and challenges.

Mentee Mentor Award:  This year we have the Pittsburgh and the Arizona chapters sponsoring this award. Thanks to the efforts of Pittsburgh Chapter President Dr. Hari Vemulapalli and his team and Arizona Chapter President Dr. Padma Aking and her team.

IAPA Awards:  Please check link on website regarding nominations for the different IAPA awards. . Please nominate members that you consider outstanding.

MIT Growth:  We continue to have a fairly steady stream of MITs joining our organization. Kudos to all of you who are making this happen.  MITs are our organization’s future and we want them to join the organization in abundance. Our MIT representatives, Drs. Manan Shah and Raman Baweja, and our ECP representative, Dr. Durga Roy, plan to be in regular contact with them. MITs should not hesitate to contact them with questions or if they are interested in volunteering or contributing to IAPA in their own creative way.  We also plan to make our Facebook more active and post topics of educational and academic interest. If you are contacted by Manan or Raman regarding write-ups or articles, I sincerely hope you will oblige.

IAPA Business & Scientific meeting: IAPA leaders will be grouping together during the weekend of October 11th and 12th to have their business meeting in Baltimore, MD. On Saturday, October 11th, there will be a scientific/dinner meeting open to all IAPA members and mental health professionals in the region. If you are in the area, please do not hesitate to join. Please check website for details on this event.

Fund Raising & Finances: Like most organizations in this tough economic climate, IAPA continues to struggle with raising funds. Our councilor, Dr. Ranga Ram is leading the effort on this. If you have any ideas regarding sponsorship and/or fund raising please do not hesitate to contact him (rrammd@gmail.com)

Upcoming International Meetings: There are 3 different meetings coming up in Jan 2015:
